They're a queer nonbinary writer\, storyteller\, and publisher with a Midwest personality. They are dedicated to writing and publishing work that improves queer lives. Topics they've explored in their own writing and storytelling include femme identity\, butch desire\, and gender performativity. In 2020\, they wrote a column for Autostraddle called Respect Your Elders where they interviewed older LGBTQ+ people in Cleveland\, Ohio sparked by Lou's interest in helping to bridge the gap between older and younger generations. They started Purpled Palm Press in 2018 in order to start adding work to the queer gamut they feel is missing particularly in relation to queer psychology and queer relationships. On their podcast\, Queer Discourse with Lou Barrett\, they get heady and silly with fellow queer people through discussions about queer lit. Lou is well aware of the barriers that queer people face and rather than dwelling on them\, the inequality has fueled them to continue helping to create a better future.
