Broward County Friendly Visitor Program Coordinator
SAGE is the world’s largest and oldest organization dedicated to improving the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBTQ+) older adults. Founded in 1978 and headquartered in New York City, SAGE is a national organization that offers supportive services and consumer resources for LGBTQ+ older adults and their caregivers, advocates for public policy changes that address the needs of LGBTQ+ older people, and provides cultural competency training for aging providers and LGBTQ+ organizations, largely through its National Resource Center on LGBTQ+ Aging and its growing social enterprise SAGECare.
Role Summary:
The Broward County Friendly Visitor Program operates out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The primary function of the Friendly Visitor Program Coordinator (FVPC) is to oversee the program including recruiting, screening, training, and clinical supervision of volunteers, as well as screening and maintenance of ongoing contact with program clients. The role also involves ongoing program outreach and promotion, and data management/record keeping of matches. The FVPC position reports to and is supervised by the Assistant Director of South Florida Programs and is an essential component of the Special Programs team, working closely with other employees within the department in South Florida and New York City, including the Broward County Care Manager. The individual holding this position must be able to interact with, relate to, and work with LGBTQ+ older adults as well as other service providers and community partners.
Key Responsibilities:
• Supervise Friendly Visitor (FV) volunteers, create and maintain volunteer files, and provide support through regular emails, phone calls, and face to face visits
• Co-lead bi-monthly supervision meetings for the FV Program
• Perform program assessments for all new prospective FV clients
• Screen all prospective volunteers through one-on-one interviews
• Co-lead quarterly day-long trainings for prospective volunteers of the FV Program
• Match volunteers of the FV Program with clients
• Conduct home visits to clients as needed
• Consult with the Broward County Care Manager around client situations and perform
follow-up from volunteer feedback
• Collect monthly reports from volunteers, offering direct feedback to each report and
forwarding appropriate concerns to Care Managers
• Facilitate programmatic support group(s)

Need-to-haves:
• 2-3 years’ experience working with aging and/or LGBTQ+ communities in program and/or
volunteer management
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Ability to take initiative to work independently, as well as part of a team
• Ability to take and make good utilization of supervision
• Proficiency in PC computer skills, including database usage
Nice-to-haves:
• Spanish/English bilingual
• LMSW; SIFI (Supervision in Field Instruction) Certified or on the path for
certification
• Good organizational and time management skills
• Good presentation skills
• Experience in peer group facilitation
• Outreach experience
